With a childhood embodying both Chinese and Western cultures, Edison Chen has cemented himself as one of Asias most prominent entertainment acts. From a past that included music and acting, Edison Chens prolific resume doesnt end there was the creation of his retail and brand operation known respectively as JUICE and CLOT. In this hypebeast.tv segment, we speak with Edison in Los Angeles about how his childhood contributed to his inspirations as well as future plans for JUICE. Director: Daniel Ahn

Edison Chen speaks with Hypebeast TV on how hip-hop has influenced his sense of style, how his childhood contributed to his inspirations as well as future plans for his retail brand JUICE & CLOT:

香港潮流品牌CLOT領軍人物陳冠希在這次於洛杉磯進行的簡短採訪中,向大家描述了自己是從什麼時候接觸到街頭文化和潮流,品牌和聯名的設計靈感,以及2010年自己主理­的品牌CLOT和店鋪JUICE的動作。

當我剛回到香港讀高中的時候,我喜歡聽嘻哈音樂,這對我以後的喜好,以及創作有著很大的影響。

我想一切都是從喬丹鞋開始的,雖然那不是純粹的街頭服飾,但為我開啟了這扇流行服飾以及潮流文化的門。 我當時非常熱衷於NBA,也是喬丹迷,喬丹鞋就成為我一定要擁有的鞋子。之後慢慢接觸到了Rocawear,Tommy Hilfiger,Phat Farm等等品牌。音樂和嘻哈啟發我去了解這些很酷的產品以及這個文化。

我很喜歡從身邊的朋友身上,通過交流而尋求創作靈感。由於我四處旅行,有幸得以認識很多不同的朋友。與他們的交流也令我受益匪淺,並且對我的創作產生影響。我從不從雜誌和­網站上尋求靈感,相比之下,我的創作來自於每天生活的所見所聞。比如有一次我看到一個無家可歸的人用包來做帽子用來擋雨,後來我們就做了一個帽子,看上去像個包,但其實是­個帽子。我覺得大家也應該多從生活中尋找靈感。

我從19歲,就開始在香港工作。包括演員,音樂,諮詢,產品設計,搭建店舖等等,所以搬到洛杉磯居住對於我來說很不同,也很特別。在亞洲,到處都是做生意的地方,酒吧,餐­廳,健身房,但在這裡則更悠閒自在,也更真實。香港就像是駭客帝國(The Matrix)中的虛擬世界,而這裡我則可以做自己。

東方和西方對於我來說沒有什麼不同,所以我可以很輕易的嘗試把兩邊的東西進行融合。我覺得台灣是一個很棒的市場,年輕人們很想了解世界其他地方的文化以及在發生中的事情,­他們的街頭文化市場也相當成熟。我覺得他們很需要像Undefeated這樣的好店鋪,我這麼說並不是因為Eddie在我旁邊,而是因為台灣確實需要一個這樣的高級鞋店。

我的店鋪Juice現在主要把精力放在亞洲,特別是中國。我們的品牌CLOT會繼續給大家帶來很多聯名,希望我們的油箱中有足夠的汽油!很感謝喜歡CLOT的各位,同時也­感謝討厭我們的人,因為沒有他們,我們則不會這麼努力的工作。我會繼續工作,希望可以給大家帶來更多好的產品。

  • if i got 1000 HKD I would rather spend it on some other street brands that r better value for their design than a t-shirt with only a massive logo(C) on it. And yes I agree that street culture in HK may not be as mature as those in US or Western Europe. But hey,I dont really see using only personal fame with intense camera exposure of the logo(C) can really 'promote' the culture. It is just a way of advertising your overpriced products ok, certainly not 'pushing the boundaries' or stuff like tha
