-Part 1-
Bob Haldeman
November 29, 1972
034-002
White House Telephone

President Richard Nixon talks with White House Chief of Staff H.R. "Bob" Haldeman about upcoming second-term appointments and about National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger's mental health. In the first part, Nixon begins by notifying Haldeman that First Lady Pat Nixon will attend the Rose Bowl parade that year. After this, they discuss George Bush's replacement of Bob Dole as the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Nixon notes about Bush: "George is such a sweet guy." They also discuss the possible appointment of Ogilvie as the head of the FBI. Haldeman says about Ogilvie: "he has the rare distinction of being an honest Illinois politician."

  • nixon owed his political life to Bush's father so I don't believe he was being negative at all.

  • it would have been better for the country if Dick was smoking a bong or a joint

    something.

  • malek was a damn fool not to take the gsa appointment and listen to haldemen bout the foundation...

  • @deltapunk21 ---thats what most people said. He was wimpy, and didnt have many convictions. Thats why his jackass son acted pseudo-macho, as if he had something to prove., not only into adulthood, but while he was Pres.

  • George Bush was always wimpish in politics.

  • I am able to discern from what I hear in Nixon's voice, he is smoking a pipe throughout this conversation. You can hear him speaking through clenched teeth, and taking the occasional puff on the pipe.
