Christopher Riedman from Bismarck, North Dakota, has been named one of the top ten young scientists in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. After being chosen as a semifinalist for the state of North Dakota, Chris recently learned that he will compete in New York in October. Chris learned about the Young Scientist Challenge from Gateway to Science, where he has been involved as a member, program participant and volunteer for many years.
Here's the challenge: Wind resistant structures:
During severe weather, structures must often withstand very high winds.
• Explain the danger and the science behind it.
• Explain and/or demonstrate possible option(s) for protection and explain the science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics involved.
I thought of this type of design when i was about 10 years old. I am 12 years old now in 6th grade entering in the 2011 DE 3M Young Scientist Im submitting my video in 2 hours! :)
