A group of 3 Orcas spotted off the coast of Vancouver Island. The large male Orca (aptly named "Captain Hook") with the bent dorsal fin has become somewhat of a celebrity in the coastal water of Southeast Alaska and British Columbia. His fame is due to him being one of only 1% of wild Orcas with a collapsed dorsal fin - perhaps due to him spending a significant amount of time in shallow bays and shallow feeding grounds during his adolescence. This video shows the Killer Whales 'spy hopping' and deep diving.

Thanks for the post. I'm visiting the San Juans next week and have been looking for a good resource to track the pods, any suggestions?

Actually, male killer whales have the larger dorsal fins and "Captain Hook", T40, is the big male that you saw with the bent tip traveling with a couple females. Females have the smaller curved dorsal fins. Nice footage of this guy, he really is very popular just like Ruffles, J1, of the Southern Resident Orcas. =)
