http://www.green-horizons.blogspot.com/ Orangutans have lost 80% of their habitat in the last twenty years. According to the World Bank, at the current rate of deforestation, there may be no lowland forest left outside of protected areas in Kalimantan by 2010. Continued loss of habitat could result in the extinction of the orangutan.
WWF is a great organization! It is sad that among the great apes it is estimated that the gentle and quiet orangutan will be the first to become extinct. I hope that people who care will consider fostering an orphan or making a small donation to the cause.

From what source are your stats? How does anyone know there were 315K orangs in 1900? How can counts be substantiated for 2007? Orangs are very quiet and difficult to locate. I have spent much time in S.E. Asia--very rough country even today. Agreed, the species is in trouble.
