In this scene Josephine goes up to her room only to discover that her overbearingly conservative father has thrown away all of her most prized possessions: her costume jewelry, her flapper dresses, and, worst of all, her diary. Distraught, Josephine grabs a pencil, shuts herself in her closet, and begins to write her feelings on the closet wall, making it her new diary, one that her dad couldn't take away.
