Tata Steel Pragati - Joda

From the day of its inception Tata Steel has been striving to develop the women empowerment. Tata Steel has always taken steps in developing the near by rural areas of it's mining & industrial areas of Orissa. Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) has been attempting to empower the women of these rural areas. TSRDS has been providing various kinds of training for income generation to the rural women. They have also provided a path to the general public of Keonjhar Dist. to live in dignity. Due to the support of TSRDS the tribal ladies have started SHG groups. These groups have started small businesses like brick making, poultry, public distribution system, mushroom, soap and phenyl making etc. successfully.
Kalyani SHG of Boneikela Basti, Joda has started a successful business of leaf plate making due to the help of TSRDS, Joda. The ladies collected leafs from the near by forest to prepare leaf plates and sell in the local market. But they were not getting right price for their products, as they could not give finishing touch to their leaf plates. TSRDS is providing training to these ladies for leaf plate making by providing them leaf plate making machine. Leaf plates made by Kalyani SHG group have now got demand in local markets. Through these entrepreneurship skills by TSRDS, Joda has provided these ladies a stepping-stone to success.
