@Merrillmiller99 it was in 2009..if you read the description, it says "recording" :)

Ehm... It couldn´t have been in 2009. Robert Merrill died in 2004!
Perhaps 1999! But it it´s still amazing, 1999 he was 82 (or perhaps 80, no one knows exactly), he sounds almost as in his prime age. Amazing!

beautiful... the it was meant to be sung, not like the idiots of today who screw it up...
he will be missed

You always associate Robert Merrill with Eddie Layton and Bob Sheppard when you think of the old Yankee Stadium. Sheppard over the PA, Layton at the organ, and Merrill singing the National Anthem once in a while, even opening the World Series after the stadium reopened in 1976.

He showed up at a Phillies-Cards game back in the seventies and sang it live. Sounded exactly the same: fantastic.

They haven't already???
Listening to Mr. Merrill's rendition of the Anthem kind of makes you wish the American male still had testosterone in his blood. ..

He wanted to play ball always and had the most beautiful baritone voice in his time and one of the best of all time.
