Taxes don't just help pay for all the things that make a healthy society, they can also be used to lessen inequality. If you heavily tax high wealth and high income, then money and power doesn't accumulate at the top as much. More equal societies are healthier societies.

We need a democratic discussion on tax..but how do you have that- most of the media is owned and controlled by the rich folks. And I don't think they would cough up at 20%- this shouldn't be optional. You can't opt in and out of democracy.

guess what ? when you make taxes unpayably high, they won't be payed...how about a Flat Tax ? all those basic services you mentioned can be funded with a 20% flat tax.
