@meghanlizadominique Wow, you're 13 and hearing music this old?? That's a good thing. And I respect your opinion and everything...but The Shangris' version is by far my top pick. Just because of its strong sound and the fact that it's about a guy and not a girl, which makes it more unheard of, especially for the time.

Rowland S. Howard makes a quite good version too, in fact the first that I heard, followed by Who Can Say, by The Horrors a few years later.

It's not really an answer, more like a cover with the gender of the lover changed. This is common in songwriting when different artists cover hits.

@exaggeratedhandshake Well, it's not really stealing. A lot of The Horrors music represents the music they listen to. One of the reasons why The Horrors are such an interesting band is coz they do small covers of old music into their music.

Jay Black replaced Jay Traynor in 1963-64. Traynor was the lead on SHE CRIED in 1962.
