Singing indri lemur in Mitsinjo Forest near Perinet. The indri pictured is feeding; the indri call was recorded earlier in the day. The indri's song has compared to that of the humpback whale. It can be heard more than 2 miles away

  • I was using a 70-200 mm lens on a Canon SLR. The Indri was eating leaving about 7-8 m away--so very low.

  • i saw a few indri's in madagascar, they were about 10m away (really lucky), it then used 3-4 huge bounds to get about 20m away, unbelievable ability to jump through the forest. what an amazing animal. the calls send a shiver down your spine.
