American Journey Watercolor - Reddish Black: http://bit.ly/eNKooF

Hi I'm Joe from Cheap Joe's and I'd like to show you about an unusual color that we have in American Journey Watercolor that not many people know about. It's called Reddish Black. It's a quinacridone color and I think it's right pretty by itself it is blackish looking. This is it on the little color chart right here and I'll put out some fresh paint and show you here. It looks almost black but when you add a little water to it it gives that reddish color coming out. So that's the reddish black color.

Here's the way I find out what colors I want to use in a painting. I have four colors laid out here: Joe's Yellow, Raw Sienna, Copper Kettle and Andrew's Turquoise. I'm going to mix each one with Reddish Black. I'll come over to my palette which I don't think you can see and I'll pick up some of this yellow color with a little bit of the-oh wow look at that, a beautiful green. That's pretty nice, I like that. It's kind of an oriental looking green. It almost looks like quinacridone gold or gold green and it is. So I think that's very pretty.

Next time I'll pick up the yellow again and I'll add a little more black to it. We'll see what we get. Oh wow a darker green. That's a very pretty color too.
Now I'll come back and add even more black to it and almost lose the yellow. But it still has that greenish tone to it, look at that.

And then I'll go on to the next color and finally Andrew's Turquoise. Wow, look at that. There's Andrew's Turquoise with that reddish black in it. Here it is with a little more reddish black in it. Wow, is that rich looking. That would make a nice evergreen tree. I'll add a little more to it and we'll end up with almost black but not a dull black. It's a very rich color. And it's going to be the same all the way through here. To get a nice rich color just add the Reddish Black to it, it won't muddy, it will stay nice and clean as long as you just use the two colors. Thanks very much. Let me know what you like about it or don't like about it. Thanks for your business.

  • Reddish Black is made from a combination of Quinacridone Red (PR209) and Lamp Black (Pbk6). It is a transparent, non-staining warm black with very good lightfastness.

  • The lunch video was not interesting at all.

  • How strange. I expected it to become a orange color not a green mixed with reddish black. What are the pigments used in this black?
