Recorded first take with the sound direct into PC and the video done on a camcorder, more as an experiment in this recording method than anything else.

Yes, lots of mistakes, went outta time pretty badly (couldn't hear the song too well through headphones) and my posture is mostly pretty horrible but I'm working on that : )

Thanks for watching. I'll rerecord it better and cleaner soon (y)

  • Well done, but now try it on a real set.

  • Thanks ;D

Can do, my acoustic kit sounds pretty gash though so the video would not be pleasant.

Admittedly the snare rolls suffer a fair bit translating across to acoustic.

There is still no substitute for an electric kit in terms of ease of recording and ability to get videos out there though, that's teh thing.

  • Yeah, they are very convinient as far as recording goes. And sound pretty damn accurate. Is this a roland?

  • Yeah, a Roland TD8. It's on a pretty average setting though, I recorded this shortly after getting it so I wasn't too sure how to get good sounds out of it. As far as displaying what you can do easily its pretty much unbeatable.

I'm gonna try midi triggering with it for the next video I record and eq the drums a bit, hopefully get a nicer sound going with the bass drum a bit more prominent. We'll see :)

    thanks again

  • China cymbal?

  • Yeaahh it's pretty irritating isn't it. I have it triggering a crash on most settings but grooving on the crash sounds terrible on most electric kits so I used a china on here. I need to buy another cymbal for it really. I did have a crash triggered for top hits of the cymbal (as you can hear during the sucky china/crash merged bits near the end), but it's hard as hell to get used to hitting a crash cymbal like that.

  • Dude that was fucking unreal. I am a huge Mastodon fan, and I really didn't hear much mistakes. Brann's drumming is already pretty sick, so I mean if u really only missed a couple things, I wouldn't even worry. As far as going out of time, I didn't really think you were much at all. Maybe sped up here and there but your fills and shit were pretty much spot on. The fact that you even got through that song is amazing in itself. Keep it up man!

  • You are great, but whit a professional drum, you can more :D

  • Very good cover! This a damn nice track for cover isn't it? Would you check out my version of this?, would be nice to have feedback :)

  • Firstly, an electric kit IS a real kit, anyone that says it isn't is just confused and needs to try to play all the same things they play on an acoustic, which is what I think they mean, on an electric...when something's difficult, it's difficult. An in-time fill doesn't have shortcuts. And second, you were awesome man, sadly, at 1:39, the part I'm actively working on, you had trouble with it. I'm glad you kept the song going though so it didn't lose it's feel.

  • Excelent work, this is a great song, one of my favorites! Great cover!

  • @hez How about a compression mic. Oh wait, that would contradict you.

  • @hez sickass drumset

  • dude u look almost exactly like chris adler

  • VERY well done!
