There has only been one escape and he broke his legs jumping from the high wall that you see on the photos.


The prison was designed by William Parsons to resemble a castle. The oldest part dates from 1825, and it was opened in 1828. The gatehouse including the adjoining building to north and south and the perimeter wall are grade II listed.

Between 1900 and 1953, eight executions took place at the prison. The last was that of John Reynolds, convicted of murder at Leicester Assizes, and hanged on November 17 1953.

it looks big from outside and inside is cramped. i was there for 3 weeks before i got moved to another prison and other prison felt like a hotel then.

@hat187 I did hear that it pretty poor inside and toooo many inmates. So are you a Leicester lad ?

Looks like a big old castle.. I wonder if they have any infamous criminals staying there..

@Queenweezy1 I guess they have had one or two, its mostly guy on remand, they are moved once sentenced.

@enjoythesilence29 yes im a Leicester Lad, that prison never has any space, if 10 are coming in then they have to get rid of ten to another prison, i was sent to HMP Onley which was like a hotel after staying here
