in my last comment "just not really great for video." i'm talking about the 17-85mm. the tokina is amazing for video. :)

  • @NitsanPictures hmmm now that you mention it I see your point, it kinda just sits in the middle with no real advantage of purpose, like you said it isn't wide angle, it hasn't got a fast apateur and isn't long enough for telephoto. maybe I should consider something else. I have a 50mm 1.8 and its a great lens when stopped down to 2.8. hmmm now back to browsing the interwebs for a good lens. I'm looking at the 17 - 70 2.8 - F4 which seems good for short zoom I guess

  • @Hakosukaa yeah. :)

I warmly recommend the Tokina 11-16 f2.8, best wide angle i've used. Costs £500 but well worth the price.

I prefer it to my 17-85 f4-5.6 which is about £100 cheaper but the 17-85 is good too. just not really great for video.

I would happily shoot most video jobs with only my 1.2 and the tokina. for stills I'm still wanting some other lenses.

EF 85mm f1.2 on a 5D is my dream setup! Saving up.. :)

  • how would you rate this lens? I'm thinking of buying it as it's only 150 and hopefully i'll be getting the 7 blade japanese version. I'll be using it on a 550d crop aswell.

  • @Hakosukaa

PS. some of those primes are 55mm not only 50mm.

it's alright, I sold mine for £135 so look for a better deal.

I didn't use it much when I had it. Otherwise I would have kept it.

It's just not my choice of lens.

For my uses it wasn't wide enough to be a wide lens and wasn't telephoto enough to be a telephoto lens, and it's aperture is not large enough to make it a good portrait lens.

For med lens I would get an (Nikon AI or Olympus OM) 50mm f1.8 (£20+) or f1.4 (£80+).

I have the OM f1.2. LOVE IT. Best lens I own. :)

  • @IRondestvedt sorry, sold.

  • how old is this lens ?

  • nice
