This is a fledgling male Anna's Hummingbird preening in the branch of a magnolia tree. You can see his distinctive red throat beginning to show, as yet just a spot just under his beak on his throat. Also, you can see some of his remaining downy feathers poking out of his wing and on his chest.
This was taken on April, 24, 2007 in the Los Angeles area, California.
My apologies for the shaky camera work. This was taken on the fly, hand-held and fully zoomed with a persnickety auto-focus.
