1958 version of Which Witch Doctor the B side of My Grandfathers Clock.
The accompaniment to this record, were the sisters-in-law Valerie and Elaine Murtagh. After adding Ray Adams they renamed themselves The Avons.
There first single under there new names was(Seven Little Girls Sitting In The Back Seat) in 1959, got them into the top 20, the light pop trio had three smaller hits and last charted with a cover of Bobby Vee's Rubber ball in 1961.
In 1962 a song they had written; Dance On, became a number one instumental UK hit for the Shadows, it returned in 1963 with a powerful vocal from Kathy Kirby that made it into the top 20 chart.
The Avons recorded for Decca in 1963 then Fontana in 1964 but had no other hits, Valerie carried on as a writer and is still a well known, behind - the - scenes figure in the UK music business, Elaine and Ray Adams appeared to have melted into the background. Jeff mudd left the group to serve in the national service and was replaced by David Lane. The last picture shows the Mudlarks on the right David Lane centre & the Avons on the left. Fred Mudd Died in Spain in 2006 and David Lane after an 8 year battle with cancer on the 4th of July 2010 aged 71 he is survived by his wife Mary nee Mudd and his Daughters Sarah, Jane and his son Matt
