I was trying desperately to see if I recognised anything as I lived on the Khormaksar beach road when I was a girl. The apaprtments were opposite the Seaview hotel and next to a BP petrol station. Behind out apartments was another apartment block and in front of that was the mosque. Across the road was the beach although I understand that this has now been built on. Many happy memories of having an arab girl named Nadia as a friend (although I didn't like her brothers very much).
@fenwoman How long ago was it that you lived in Aden? This is on what is called Shabbat Road. I assume that many of the apartments that you mentioned still exist. Could it be the ones that remind me of military base type construction? Definitely no longer a BP station out here. Although, I am not sure of the Seaview hotel still exists possibly under a different name. The beach area is a little ways behind where I live in Khormaksar - about a 10 minute walk.
I was there in 1966.I actually found a photo of the Seaview hotel on Flickr. if you go to the flickr home page and then in the URL after flickr.com put /photos/kendavies/4820174037/
