@hadabadeh actually that isnt the sound of the ice cracking, that is the sound of the ice expanding because of the cold then slightly shifting. so actually when you hear that its good because it's making ice

A high of +4° for today. Doesn't sound too promising for ice coverage. Maybe January will chill things down. I just love standing there on a calm day listening to the ice make all sorts of sounds.

@purple0wnzx Clear ice is much stronger than "white ice" so to speak. And i have been on lake superior with 1 foot of clear ice easy.

@vanuisha it actually is alot dangerous then you think if the ice is black then its pretty thin... if its white its thicker.
