Hellingly Asylum 1903 - 1994
East Sussex decided to provide a new asylum after a brief period of as principal owners of the Haywards heath asylum.
The construction of the new building allowed the county to leave the frequently-overcrowded old asylum to the Brighton authority and take up more extensive facilities at Hellingly.

great video, my nan used to work in the kitchen there and nearly got stabbed by one of the patients once. and now she has got to the point where she belongs back there, but as a patient not staff :-)

top pictures and a great soundtrack. spent my youth kickin round this hospital as both my parents worked there, as did many others in the local community. makes a nice change to see the hospital without a horror theme.
