I recut Lyle Waggoner's screen test for the 1966 Batman TV series to team him with Burt Ward as Robin.(who had far more talent and charisma than Peter Deyell, the actor Waggoner actually tested with.) I think if ABC executives had seen Waggoner together with Ward, that Waggoner would have gotten the part.(Sorry Adam West!) What do you think?

  • Dam. That was pretty interesting, one of the coolest post's on Youtube,but.. since there is no dvd box set of the WestShow this can't be from a dvd special feature. So are you some guy from WB who had access to such archives, borrowed them and posted it on YouTube?? Where the hell did this come from? Lyle woud've actually fit Batman quite perfectly. Instead of West who played less of BruceWayne and more of LoneRanger. Lyle LOOKS just like him too. Wierd cuz I'v always said RogerMoore. Similar

  • @ComicBookGo I'm glad you liked it. This wasn't an existing test, this was a test I created using the existing tests of Lyle Waggoner-Peter Deyell and Adam West-Burt Ward. My point is that the producers WANTED Adam West and knew the television execs would prefer the actor who tested with Burt Ward.(the superior actor) The producers never gave Lyle a chance. (Adam West understood the comedy, which is why they preferred him.) But if they had recut the two tests, like I did, maybe Lyle wins.

  • Yah, Lyle would have rocked as Batman and poor Burt might have avoided those secret visits in his trailer from Adam West. Oh well, I guess we'll never know what could have been.

  • Lyle towers over the little guy!

  • Lyle was a major stud. Would have been good in the role. Folks who say he lacked the comic skills to carry off the camp probably never saw the Carol Burnette show. But your experiment is an interesting and clever one. Even though I think Lyle would've worked, West's loamy baritone lent a lot to the role.

  • @Zacatown What's funny is that Lyle Waggoner did have a flair for comedy as his years on the Carol Burnett show attests. Lyle actually had the better screen test if you ask me and seemed to fit the role perfectly. West just seemed way too over-the-top, even when he tried to come off serious.

  • @bgbizkit

Because it isn't what you know but who you know. Adam West knew the TV Execs.
