Manny Malhotra scores the game winning goal 13 seconds into OT against the Dallas Stars December 18th, 2008. Both on ice officials called it a goal. It was sent to the War Room in Toronto for a review. Toronto claims all 8 people in the room unanimously agreed it was a "distinct kicking motion."
In this video you can clearly see Malhotra's skate go over top the handle of Turco's stick. Just after the skate goes over the stick, the puck bounces off the skate into the goal. There was nothing distinct about it considering 3 things: 1)Only one skate on the ice - Very hard to kick when on one skate 2)Skated over Turco's stick - When skating over a stick, balance is lost momentarily. 3)This is in slow motion and it's still ambiguous at best - How can it be argued it was distinct if it hardly looks distinct in slow motion?

that was a horrible call. hewas on one foot. it is not possible to create a kicking motion on onw foot. I agree with jfeicht83, they are a joke, and not even a good joke.
Sorry guys, I have to go with the "war-room" on this one. It certainly wasn't intentional. Hell, it wasn't even a kick, but his skate, though accidentally as it slid off of Turco's stick, moved in a distinct kicking "motion" and propelled the puck into the net. The rule doesn't care how or why the motion was created.
That being said, they need to change this rule and allow goals off of skates no matter what. If players have the skill, let them kick it in!
