Mission accomplished in long distance R/C endurance test! HPI Racing's 1/5th scale Radio Controlled Baja 5B goes from Barstow, California to Primm, Nevada - 120 miles!

Wednesday, January 31 (Orange, Calif.) -- HPI Racing, building on twenty years of history in the radio controlled [R/C] industry, has taken a step out of the box. HPI factory driver Thad Garner drove a 1/5th scale radio controlled vehicle 120 miles through the desert, far from any designated R/C race track, smack into the middle of the full-size dirt sports community.

The mission was to tackle the famous off-road race route from Barstow to Vegas. Covering more than 120 miles, HPI Racing chose the grueling un-paved desert to test the performance capabilities and durability of the Baja 5B gasoline powered R/C off-road buggy. HPI Racing knows that this type of test far exceeds normal R/C driving, but the challenge was to test the Baja 5B in the most extreme desert conditions.

  • Not very much of a bashing though, ok some rocks on the deck, but mine gets some big are testing chassis, might as well have done it on the road crap test of the car, the test of an engine only, and come on its only 120miles. I must have tacked double this amount, just proves how thick yanks are yet again.

  • @dean0681 hahahha - look at the date when the video was posted! You don't have a place to run a 120 miles in the UK! In 2007 you where not even thinking about a Baja, you where playing with your 1/32 scale desk top R/C. You've been on here since 2006 and no video's... "THICK"... hmmmm Swindon in the house - go outside and film something or you affraid to pop up your rainbow umbrella? Put those old Pigtown Flig records back on.

Hey, thanks for watching and posting!

  • @2smokestrokin Nothing better to do... how bought when you are getting paid... yep NOTHING BETTER!!!

No, I do not need a new hobby, I currently have too many! The Toyota Land Cruiser, motorcycles, bicycles is enough... R/C is the work.

  • where there any mods to the 5b before or during the video besides battery changes

  • @sonicboomracing Back in Jan/2007 There was not much for mod's on the market and with this being a HPI Long Distance test, we wanted it very stock to show durability.

  • Now with cellphone technology Imagine having a long distance race with R/C cars!?! having a first person view and racing the R/C Car for 100's of miles?! that would be epic! unless you flipped it 70 miles out.....

  • Is that an ss or 2.0. And what mods does it have

  • You thick or some thing, I had a 29cc monster truck back in 2005, and now baja shit are just catching up in engine size. So that pissed your your fire don't it.

  • 5b FTW. Got my self a 5b ss because of this.

  • @2smokestrokin It ain't a toy man. it burns gas, for one thing, and for another, it can do 40 real mph. Thats 200 mph for its size (1/5 scale)
