The video features trolleybuses of different models in Shanghai still in operation today. The trolleybus network hasn't been expanded but shrinking drastically since mid 90s and there is a constant fear that they may totally disappear from the streets in Shanghai soon, the pitfall has resulted more and more trolley routes being substituted by buses and buses are being deployed to some trolley routes that have both trolleys and buses plying on the same route. This isn't a good sign as more and more overhead wires are not being utilised at all but only left to idle.

  • To be very frank, the trolleybus technology that Shanghai uses now is the same with the one it used 30 years ago. The way the overhead wires are strung and the type of trolley poles, trolley shoes on the bus are the same as those used in the 60s and 70s. De-wirement rate is still very high. Thus, giving trolleybus a bad name that it is slow and problematic to the general public.

  • no no it is much lower than before. I remember good ol' route 21 dewiring every 3 trips when it was still a trolley bus. Either it's improving or the driver just been getting better.
