Huang Qiushuang: The Breakdown

Huang Qiushuang is one of my favorite gymnasts, and she just happens to be one of those gymnasts who always seems to screw up. In 2009, she could have easily been world all around champion, but didn't even make the team because she was injured. In 2010, she finished fourth behind Rebecca Bross who fell. That, however, is not because of lack of talent but because of all the little mistakes she made that added up. She was in line for a gold or at least a medal on bars after her teammate He Kexin fell, but fell on a simple transition. Finally at the Asian Games this year, she put together a great all around performance in the team finals, only to fall in the all around and finish a few tenths behind Sui Lu. This montage is meant to show her potential, along with what has actually happened throughout her career.

@amylily123 Unfortunately, she's already bombed the American Cup and missed nationals because she broke her hand. But let's still hope that the second half of 2011 is at least better than the first :)

Jiang didn't win the 2011 Asian Games? Sui Lu did???? Really? Wow... I thought Tan, Jiang, or Huang would win.

@ShawnVikaKomova2012 Jiang had a major breakdown in TF (which was also prelims) and didn't make any finals at all. Tan was too young. Huang fell on bars.

actually she didnt make the 2009 world team because she was injured.

2010 was such a shame for her at worlds. :(

@KMoney3187 Okay, I'll change that in the description. For some reason, I always thought that she didn't make it because she failed one part of the chinese national games (AA?) and it was Jiang who didn't make it due to injury.

this is almost invariably my favorite kind of gymnast. Someone who can perform beautifully, has incredible attack, and isn't afraid to make mistakes. I get the feeling that this kind of performer loves what they're doing for the sake of doing it, rather than to get the most medals, or score the most points. Very admirable and VERY fun to watch.

@ShawnVikaKomova2012 Whoops I know your comment was ages ago, so you may know this by this point, but I was in Guangzhou a few weeks before the Asian games were held, and they're only held every 4 years (I guess coinciding with events like the Commonwealth Games)

It really does suck when you are a great gymnast but nerves get the best of you. A lot of great gymnast have this happen...Atler was like this for the US...she needs to get her head in the game because juniors will take her spot if shes not careful.

Aaw Thanks for this upload! I love her too and really want to see her continue onto Worlds 2011 and OG 2012. I hope they continue to work with her and get her to be consistent. I think many of her errors are purely mental because she is exceptionally talented.

Awww so sad especially because she is Chinese. That adds a lot of pressure because of how tough they are on their athletes. They really have to do well all the time. Hours of grueling training and literally all living together at their gym and then they don't do well.

@nastia2012 Oh. Poor Jiang. Huang is always inconsistent. She just fell twice on beam at the American Cup. Wait, are we talking 2011 or 2010. Because at first I thought we were but then I realized we were talking about 2010 and Tan would be too young.
