Cutaway from a spinning malfunction during a canopy control seminar (this was NOT planned ;)
Luckily, the ccs coach was filming the landings and noticed me "having fun"...

  • Der Reserveschirm hat ganz schnell geõffnet, Gott sei dank. Hoffentlich passiert es mir nie.

Wie viel Absprungen hast gehabt wann's los ging?

    Blauer Himmel aus Kalifornien!

  • Hi, what you see there was my 39th jump.

I guess none of us wishes for a reserve ride, but before each jump I take a moment to think about what to do in this case. It certainly can't hurt to be prepared.

    Blue skies from Germany!

  • Your 39th jump? Well that didn't take long for you to experience your first cutaway!!

    Blue skies from Holland!

  • Well, fresh from training. Maybe it's better this way than with ground school a thousand jumps past.

  • dos jit dan wer lok zeig!!!

  • I'm glad you got it sorted out. I'm not reading through all of the comment and maybe it's just the camera view but why did your reserve not deploy immediately after? I assume no RSL.

  • what is a bag lock?

  • I feel you...I had my first cutaway on my 22nd jump! Line dump broke 4 of my A lines. Pretty scary stuff...

  • thats sick man!! i had a chop on my 13th jump! had a bag lock!! that got the heart going haha good practice tho..

  • @limbolanddave

The RSL only pulls the reserve pin initiating the reserve parachute deployment sequence after a cut-away. It's NOT attached to the reserve freebag.

  • wow thats rly cool

  • nice view

  • I have skyhook. Haven't had a chance to test it out yet but from all the footage I've seen I feel safe with it. Pulling the reserve in a stable position is the ideal scenario but what happens when you have a malfunction below 500 feet? That's when the rsl and skyhook really make a difference. According to the inventor, Bill Booth, they had BASE jumpers doing demo cutaways at around 100 ft AGL. All I can say is I hope I never have to experience that!

  • That was an PdF Atom 0, worked just fine.
