These are by no means parakeets. These are lorikeets, small parrots from Australia. There are various sub species of lorikeets but they are wild animals and do not make good pets. I used to work with the lorikeets at the Oklahoma City Zoo. But these are NOT parakeets at all.

Rainbow Lorikeets. One of my favorite parts of the Cleveland Zoo too. Not a bird I'd keep in my house, but they're gorgeous to look at.

I once went to an aquarium that also has a lorikeet exhibit. They're very cute birds.

These bite too and this was the first time we had visited the exhibit. We've been back several times and she does much better.
