@U2gal4life and more to the point most of these countries have not done too badly as a result of British Empire! Canada - is pretty successful - as is New Zealand ...Australia is a runaway success and is a fabulous country!!! Singapore is just fantastic I have been there and loved every single second of it!! Ferraris on every single street!! More Asians own super-cars there than any other! Its only when you go to Africa or West Indies you see the work ethic is not there!

Australia has done too badly...........its now more successful than Britain - but if you want to talk about Australia (I have been there twice and loved it) I have cousins there and I have been invited out again by some Aussie surf friends so I don't think Australia has a problem with me as a Brit! to carry on from above ...Belgium invaded the Congo, Portugal Invaded some of South America, So did Spain! India threatened Pakistan, Iraq invaded Kuwait!Why Blame Britain the whole time?

1. The reason the Brits entered NI in the 1960s was to help the Catholic communities being burned out their homes by loyalist mobs. As usual, and seen as recently as Iraq, their remit soon turned from protector to aggressor to occupier.

2. There is no "vast" majority of Unionists in NI. There's a small majority and that only exists because of decades of gerrymandering. Even loyalists know that due to higher birthrate Republicans will sooner or later outvote them.

Britain in fact is bailing the Republic of Ireland out from their financial woes! There are thousands of both Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland people living and working in the UK. Maybe as an American you should come over to Britain and visit Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland and see for yourself that this conflict is no longer - or rather its one paramilitary unit fighting amongst themselves and others on the opposite political side! But they are totally illegal!

The vast majority of the people of Northern Ireland wish to remain British thats why the army were there in the 60's, 70's and 80's and early part of the 2000 decade. Its Hollywood who glamourises this - I am part Northern Irish and wish to be British!! But Americans really need to get a life and don't buy into this fantasy land that Hollywood seems to live in! The Republic of Ireland (in the South) wants nothing to do with this violence and is very good friends with UK!
