This is my Panasonic Model RS-802US 8-Track Tape Player. This 8-Track player is somewhat famous. It was featured in the 1971 Movie "The Omega Man" Starring Charlton Heston. I pick-up this unit at a local thrift shop for $9. All I had to do to get this unit working was lubricate all the internal parts and clean the head. Now this unit works like new. I anyone would like to see more videos about my stereo system, please leave a comment.

  • Nice video. Just wondering what is the build quality on Panasonic's. Also would this unit hookup to a normal receiver without a pre-amp. I have a SoundDesign receiver/cassette/vinyl unit that has cd/tv/aux hookups on the back. Old electronics are kind of my hobby. What would be a decent price for one?

  • The build quality on this unit is quite good. I have not trouble using this on a modern JVC reviver without a preamp, however, I have to align the tape heads, because I was getting a lot of cross-track interference.

  • Are you positively certain, this is the very same make & model? The reason I ask is that you can check out a video here on YouTube. "Charleston Heston-Omega Man-Eight Track and Scotch". I can't get the full view of the 8 track player, but the one you have displayed here is a very nice model!!!

  • I am sure.

  • Thanks, how do you align the tape heads.

  • how much u get for it did you find it in a garage sale

  • I linked this video to mine in the description. Good stuff. Thanks for the history.

  • @matmroy Further to my earlier posting I found some cartridges and plugged the

player in to my Technics SH-EH600 (another gift from my son, more on that later)

So away went my National er Panasonic er National player and I,m so pleased

to be reunited with it I will keep it hooked up and try and source more cartridges.

  • @matmroy Guys whats going on here? Check out my videos! I have just posted

the identical player with the same model number (RS-802US but mine is a

National made by Matsushita probably about the same age !?

  • I have a similar model which was RS-804US, but mine has an eject button, but yours doesn't. Great to hear Glenn Miller on 8-Track. One of me and "TheFlicker98's" favorite big band performer.
