In June 2010, I went to the Huck Finn Jubilee set in a little oasis of trees just outside Victorville in the windy California desert. Performing there was a band I never heard about led by a guy looking sorta like Buddy Holly but with a voice more like Elvis Presley. They quickly blew me away with their exciting new wave of Americana music played with superb musicianship. Nathan McEuen and his band, featuring the brilliant mandolin player, Scott Gates, and the bass player/songwriter, Chuck Hailes, performed three times officially at the Jubilee. This includes a workshop with Sierra Hull and Christian Ward. Here, Nathan, Scott and Chuck perform "Time to Go Home" and "Fool Around" - check out the mandolin solo by Scott Gates! I didn't have a video camera, but only a regular camera and a little pocket digital recorder. I borrowed some pictures from a hilarious photo shoot at Nathan's Facebook page. ;)

I left with Nathan's new album SCRAPBOOK SESSIONS and not long afterward ordered his other two CDs, GRAND DESIGN and FESTIVAL, all excellent albums. Nathan McEuen: a great singer, songwriter, and player. http://www.nathanmceuen.net
