A quick comparison after selling my APEXi AVC-R for a Hallman Pro RX MBC with cockpit control.

All pulls start on 3rd gear at 4000rpm, and end up at 5th gear unless otherwise stated on the captions.

Both setups are targeted for 20psi.

-The APEXi AVC-R electronic boost controller delivers smooth, responsive boost at the cost of spool no matter how soon you raise boost in early RPMs. The AVC-R first needs to wait for a boost signal delay before letting the 3 port solenoid to do its job in regulating boost.

-The Hallman Pro RX manual boost controller, with its ceramic ball and spring design, offers both solid response and stability over the APEXi AVC-R without the sacrifice of spool. Because of its simplicity, reaching your target boost is immediate. Coupled with the right sized wastegate, the Hallman Pro RX MBC shows its maximum potential over any electronic boost controller.

  • Cool, Thanks for the information.

I'm in process of having couple bits changed on my car / engine and I'm installing the Apexi AVC-R controller. :-) I had to download a manual for it, there's a lot of pages, it's like a bible! haha!.

Just quick question though can the controller it self be taken out of car? when I park it up for the night, just I don't want my window smashed by yobs thinking its a Sat Nav. Or if I unplug it will it lose all its data?.

    Thanks

  • @loonytooney It's okay to pull it off. It has a built-in internal memory so you won't lose your settings. If you have a used unit though, make sure you clear it before using it. Otherwise the previous owner's settings will mess up yours. My car was broken into about a year and a half ago. My Pioneer deck, gauges, and piggybacks were untouched. They just smashed my window to steal my subwoofer in my trunk and multimeter in my glove box. I hate thieves, they should burn in hell!!

  • Good video,

I'm just wondering with the Apexi was it not over-boosting then dropping off to what your boost is set at as what it should do, and protect your turbo.

I've heard if using MBC all the time, the turbo won't last long as it boosts to what your boost is set at and holds, you don't get any over-boost. Which again I was led to believe is better to have over boost that not.

    Again cool vid. 5**

  • @loonytooney Thanks. The boost response (Feedback), which is how fast it will ramp up before stabilizing, is what I couldn't get perfect because of the ever changing humidity and ambient temps. I used to set it higher during the day when it's hot, and it'll be perfect. Then at night, when it's colder, it oscillates and tries to find it's sweet spot on it's own, which you saw in the vid. The Hallman never gave me problems. I just set it and forget it, and it keeps the boost held all the way.

  • @loonytooney Nothing wrong with using an MBC holding boost to redline as long as the tune is good. Your turbo or engine won't last long if you tune is crap or even worse, untuned.

  • Nice video. What sort of BOV are you running. Makes a very pleasing sound without sanding like a ricer.

  • @SIG551P Thanks. Its a TiAL Q BOV.

Cheers for that, Yeah it used to be my mates until he went after-market management, so I bought his Apexi.

Yeah, I agree with you about the thieves. But where ever you live you'll allways get them.

Keep up the good work, the vids are impressive. :D

  • @StickGuy0000000001 In my personal experience, yes. I mastered the APEXi ACV-R, which is one of the most advanced EBC's out there even though it's been out for 10 years or so. It just didn't provide the response and stability as a good MBC like the Hallman MBC. I was skeptic to buy an MBC in the first place because of what everyone and their brothers said about them. I should've just went with it and found out sooner that it was better than an EBC.
