Japanese Government defends the cruel, barbaric & unsustainable practice of Whaling.

February 16 2010, The Japanese government says they will have Captain Peter Bethune of New Zealand taken to Japan to be tried on unknown charges in a Japanese court following his boarding of the Shonan Maru on February 15.
Bethune planned to hand over a bill for $3 million, the cost of replacing the Ady Gil, an activist ship he captained that was destroyed in a collision last month.

Donald Rothwell, a professor of international and maritime law at the Australian National University, said Bethune's boarding was not illegal under international law unless he planned to do harm to the crew or imperil the safety of the Shonan Maru 2. Merely making a demand or presenting a letter and a bill did not constitute terrorism or piracy.

If the Japanese put Peter Bethune on trial in Japan, it will be a case that will draw the attention of the world. Said Captain Paul Watson. What is the Japanese government thinking? The persecution of Captain Peter Bethune will a rallying point for an international campaign to free Captain Bethune and to end the brutal illegal slaughter of the whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

I cant understand how someone could watch whales being slaughterd and be ok with it! In japan there is a dolphin mass killing every year! Shame on you japan! Hopefully the whaling group will be bankrupt this year
