Two-barred Crossbills at Uppsala, Sweden. A flock of incredibly tame individuals, comprising 5 adult males, 2 females and a single second calender male. This species has erupted into Sweden due to the complete failure of the larch pine crop in Russia last summer. Shot on 24th January 2012...

  • Specialist larch cone feeders these John, so they are after the larch cone seeds...the crossed tips on the bill are used to oped the cone and the tongue can then extract the seeds...
