As the debate over deficits ramped up in Washington on Monday, Sen. Bernie Sanders laid out the compelling case not to slash programs for working families. Any deficit reduction package must rely on new revenue for at least half the reduction in red ink, he added in a major address in the Senate. Sanders spoke at length about what caused deficits (wars, Wall Street bailouts, tax breaks for the rich) and how to shrink them (more revenue from the wealthiest Americans to match spending cuts). He urged fellow senators not to yield to Republican congressional leaders who "acted like schoolyard bullies" when they walked out of budget negotiations. He summed up the situation in a letter to the president that had been signed by more than 16,000 people by the time he completed his speech.

  • National Budget = No Fiscal Responsibility, by or US Congress.

    FACTS:

    1) When, both houses of the US Congress, were taken over by the democrat party, the National debt was ~ $ 8.7 Trillion Dollars.

    2) Two years of democrat control congress, National Debt increased to 10.6 Trillion Dollars.. That's $1.95 Trillion Dollars in 2 years.

    3) Now after 2yrs 8 1/2 months of oblama the NTL Debt is 14.97 Trillion Dollars.

2007-2011, NTL Debt increased 6.27 Trillion Dollars under democrat control

  • @Unklebillybob I'll back up my claims as soon as you do the same. This whole time, you have not given any proof to your claims.

An example for my second point, GE made BILLIONS in dollars in profit, and paid NO TAXES

My last point was asking you to answer why billionaires and millionaires are only taxed at about $100,000 to the $250,000 range.

  • @acekiller121 OK. If 47% of Americans don't pay any Federal Taxes, then, pray tell,,,,What is the Percentage Who Do Not Pay Any Federal Taxes? I'll wait, since I've got the statistics right in front of me.

On your next point, you need to back-up your claims, with a break-down of where taxes are paid through those corportations. Agan, I'll wait.

Restate your last question. $100,000-$250,000 ,,,, For what?

  • @Unklebillybob I'm not sure where you're getting you information, but I as for one do pay my taxes, and your statement of 47% of people not paying taxes is simply not true.

Also, since people like yourself, as I can tell from your political view you have expressed, want to count corporations as people. Since corporations tend not to pay anything, then i guess what you say can be true.

Lastly, answer me this: How come billionaires and millionaires are only taxed at about $100,000-$250,000?

  • @acekiller121 Currently, people who are considered rich, already do pay a "...bigger percentage of the pie..." . The richest 20 percent paid 68.9 percent of federal taxes, & the top 1 percent paid 28.1 percent. (One would expect the rich to pay more, since they earn more, but these percentages are even higher than their share of the nation's total income. In contrast ~ 47% of Americans, pay ZERO Taxes.

And people like you want those, already paying the Lion's Share in Taxes, to pay more - NO!

  • @Unklebillybob Well, considering that they make more money, they SHOULD have to pay a bigger percentage of the pie........

  • @LindyToYou I see someone has spammed you on this question. So let's keep it alive. There is one news commentator who thinks that a fair tax on "THE RICH"(THOSE MAKING $250,000 OR MORE) should pay 55% of that person's income. Let's break that down shall we? There are 52 weeks in a year, Yes? Therefore, there are 2,080 working hours in a year. That would mean a Rich Person would need to work From January 1 to July 21, just to let the government Steal the money it has earned. NOPE!.

  • @mike2005gto, I truly wish!
