For the family and friends of 13-year-old Melanie Powell of Marshfield, the fifth anniversary of her death by a drunken driver will be one of their hardest days yet. Maybe it's because she wasn't there to graduate from Marshfield High with her classmates at the end of May, and isn't getting ready to go off to college with them this fall. And maybe it's because the five-year mark reminds them how long they'll have lived without her, and wondering what her life would have been if it hadn't ended when she was 13. "It doesn't get easier," her mother Nancy Powell said. Read more in Friday's Patriot Ledger or at patriotledger.com

  • This is a very sad situation. The woman who committed this crime deserves the death penatly. But, like I said this is a very sad situation, not for the victum, but for those who can hold their liquor and drive. We didn't kill the little bitch then why should we prosectuted for having too much of a good time and pulled over for BS violations.

  • i was at KPTI 2009, when melanie's grandfather was a guest speaker. I am one of the 46 key clubbers from Greenville. We had 9 key clubbers from my club go down with us to boston that day. during that meeting my enitre club was crying. her story was so sad. so my love goes out to her family and friends.
