A response to Fred's (conferencereports) response to my video about Quantum Voodoo and consciousness.
Fred contends that I have misinterpreted the meaning of the term "hard problem".
I contend that we both have a somewhat different interpretations of the word "why", vis-à-vis "Why are there qualia?"

I also offer my thoughts on the various ways the word "physical" is used, especially in relation to the question of dualism / the hard problem.

  • Energy is Mass, Demesion, Radiation, and Consciouness. Energy enables brain cells to communicate with each other. Thus Consciousness enables brain cells to communicate. Consciousness is in everything even Lightning.

  • @jogayot ego driven douche bag

  • I do indeed work in higher education, but 'professor' in the UK is a particularly esteemed position. Thanks for that.

  • Lol, to be honest I thought you said in one of your videos that you are a scholar and that you work in higher education. I just supposed you were a professor. Still, you merit the promotion!

  • @Infected Daemon

Thanks for the promotion. ProfFred ftw.

  • @5:06 "Tangible"

EM fields and activities (e.g. data acquisition and processing, radio, TV, radar, etc.) are just as tangible to entities with corresponding sensory apparatus as bowling balls. That humans are not so equipped biases our judgment. Would you say that (visible) light is non-physical? If so, then you must mean non-material; if not, why consider similar EM "non-physical"?

  • @1:07 "This is the HP...

What you are calling the HP is IMHO no harder than asking why and how can (physical) computers (or even thermostats) acquire and process DATA which is "non-physical, invisible, intangible,..." etc.? This is not a HP, so why should yours be?

IMHO there is no HP at all, unless it is proving that you are conscious and that anything other than you is not. When computers routinely pass (updated) Turing tests, who are you to say they are not as "conscious" as you are?

  • Beautiful video, I definitely agree that there is physicality in our cognition and it does solve the problem of dualism. On regards to what Professor Fred thinks, I can't say, I haven't seen his response yet.

  • panta rhei. you shouldn't have answered quacking of the duck for the wrath of demonstration is great upon us.

  • EM is the objective side of the chasm; it is physical; we can detect and measure it with instruments. We cannot detect or measure a qualia with any instrument other than our own first-person awareness. I think your theory of EM is definitely a step in the right direction on the objective side.
