  • Hi you mentioned Judo as an example of adopting the effortless movement that comes from the Chinese way of thinking, Judo actually has its origins in Japan and is an aggressive grappling and wrestling sport. Tai chi by all means is founded in China and takes a lot of it's ideas from Chinese philosophy but not Judo. If you are looking for another Chinese physical art form that is underpinned by Chinese philosophy, try Wing Chun which takes most of its ideas from Taoism and Confucius.

  • @EvertonWeAre -- Thanks for watching, Everton, but you haven't done your homework. "Judo" means "the gentle way" and was founded as "a school for studying the way", "the way" being the concept of life itself. "The way" is, of course, the Tao, and the Tao is nothing other than the way. Quoted portions from the mouth of the founder of Judo, himself, Dr. Jigoro Kano. (As an aside, we mustn't forget the impact of Chinese philosophy on Japanese culture, all through Japan's middle ages)

  • @EvertonWeAre: I use these youtube videos in my own classes on occasion (I teach related subjects and also practice various martial arts) -- so I wanted to jump in: Judo (aka "The Gentle Way") is actually the best example!

The founder started in Jujitsu, but specifically rejected the aggression and created Judo. Alan Watts used Judo often to explain Taoism (even used footage of the famous Judo master Mr. Mifune, to exemplify--an old man effortessly flips a young tough guy--it's on youtube.

  • @profquesada Hi, judo may aim to represent the gentle way but if you actually observe the art and it's way of dealing with an opponent there's still a lot of wastage in the application of energy and I disagree that it is a relevant example an art that underpins Chinese philosophies that promote a gentle nature. Any martial art that uses grappling and ground pinning is not the best example of minimal use of energy in the most effect and gentle way. There are better examples to use.

  • That's Kelly Leek. He rode his motorcycle on the baseball diamond on opening day.

  • @cowfordflorida1 Very good point. I agree that they will never oust the Taliban. Even if we gain good control of Afghanistan, there will always be some Taliban form of control.
