I would disagree that he doesn't know what he's doing. Just because someone isn't creating some form of dull dance music, does not mean they are not aware of what they are up to... you should widen your musical horizons.
It's funny to watch this clip again after buying a vostok over a year ago. Strangely this demo was one of the ones which induced me to buy it even though it's clear that the guy "playing" the thing has no clue what the hell he's even doing.
I hope he's figured out the patch matrix, that's the best feature on this instrument.
In terms of fatness of the oscillators, the synthi is unbeatable. but in terms of using it for music, I have to say, the vostok fits better. But they have - out of the matrix - very different features, you know.
I'm thinking of selling my EMS Synthi- it's getting up there in the years. Has anyone had any experience playing both? How does it compare I wonder? Is the Vostok better because of newer features, or is the EMS still the 'real deal'? I've not ever played a Vostok, but it seems like a good upgrade.
The Vostok is a combination of ASol modules and the layout & form-factor are inspired by the Roland System 700 Lab System & the Synthi. It doesn't sound like either unit at all though. It sounds like an ASol device, which is to say different but damn good. The only parts that are like a Synthi are the patch matrix (the Vostok's is better) & the fact that it is in a case. The graphics & module choice (to some degree) are inspired by the System 700 Lab Unit. Vostok is great but a Synthi = Synthi
