In April, Mary Floye Federer, FPC Director of Global Missions, Roger Cullins, Director of 11:05 worship, and I made a trip of encouragement to our ministry partners in Cairo, Egypt. The impact of the Revolution was still fresh in the nation of Egypt when we arrived. Our hotel overlooked the Tahrir Square in Cairo where many of the most watched protest were held. While we were there, thousands still came to the square each night in celebration. Our long-term ministry partners are watching and praying for a new day of openness to the Gospel. Many Christians have been and continue to be targeted by radicals and the future for our brothers and sisters is unclear. Our hearts were encouraged by the Christians we met, their commitment, optimism, courage and strategic plans to impact their nation and that entire region of the world for Christ.
Kasr el Dobara Evangelical Church, just blocks from the protest square and the National Museum, offers services on Friday night and continues through a Monday night prayer and praise gathering. Thousands of believers gather every week and from that number hundreds have been sent to neighboring nations to plant the seeds of faith. I had the opportunity to speak to the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Cairo, established in the 1800s by Presbyterian missionaries, and I experienced the passion these pastors have for reaching their communities. Next, we were introduced to the Stephen's Children Ministry. The faithful staff of over 1,500 visits the homes of thousands of children living in desperate conditions and works in the name of Christ to lift them to new levels of hope. As usual we went to encourage and came back blessed and deeply moved.
