I've had a pair of 4" 7-segment displays hanging around for 7 years for a project that never happened. Now that I've started dabbling with electronics again I thought I connect one up. Looks pretty impressive I think.

This is a common cathode display and each segment has a forward voltage drop of 8.8V so have used a 12V supply to a UDN2981 Darlington array source driver. The driver in turn is controlled by an Arduino microcontroller.

  • @herctrap That's good. Where did you find the blue displays?

    I see you went with shift registers. I thought about that but decided to take a different approach. Mine is still at the prototype stage on a breadboard but I am using an Arduino to drive a MAX7219 which in drives 6 digits through Darlington arrays. I hope to finish it over the holiday.

  • @sergejk Rapid have red and super bight red. Search of order codes 57-0450 and 57-0460.
