I much prefer listening to "The Rite of Spring" or "Petrushka" as absolute music rather than program music. Generally speaking, I find dancers an annoyance. Music is what music is "about." I first explored classical music in my 20's, and an LP I devoured was excerpts from Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde" which I listened to AS ABSOLUTE MUSIC -- appropriately, considering the place of the work in tonal music. The same, of course, goes for Stravinsky's two significant works. Yes, it's tonal.

This is far and away my favorite performance of Le Sacre that I've found. Valery Gergiev is the best living interpreter of Stravinsky's ballets. I saw him in the States conducting the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra performing Mahler's 5th.
Thank you very much for putting it all up in one video.
far too slow for me
