SQ22: Heavy rotation out of Changi towards New York with Airbus A340-500

This is SQ22, the longest commercial passenger flight of the world. Being operated by an Airbus A340-500 and with me as passenger on today :-)

After two hours at the gate we finally got pushed back. We already vacated to RWY20C for departure but then a TCAS-Problem stopped us before taking off (see the video in my profile) and we had to wait for the technicians to fix that problem.

SQ22 took of from Runway 20R the second time and that was amazing: 59 seconds, such a long and heavy takeoff run with nice engine sound that is always music to my ears. As we rock off from RWY20R you have a beautiful sight on SIngapore and the sea. As it was quite cloudy on that day you have a nice sight as our heavy airbus full of fuel turns towards Bangkok on our much longer trip to the United States, to New York Newark.

So how does the crew alternate on flights of this length of time? Obviously the same 2 pilots can't be at the controls for the full 18 hours.

I have never been Concorde, but is this 100 seat aircraft with all business seat accomodations in a way to recreate the service of Concorde minus the supersonic speeds?

You have a lot of very good videos posted of your travels with the A340 from different airlines. Keep up the good work. I would be very happy if I ever got to travel on an A340 even just once in my lifetime. Of the A340 series aircraft, the A345 and A346 are my favorites. I think is has more to do with the fact that they are more rare in my opinion and that there were fewer of them built than the A343.

Now, the other day I caught SQ21, the return flight from Newark, on a live radar tracking site, and it was not flying the polar route - it was going through Europe and Russia. Obviously even longer. I wonder why.
