  • Fascinating harmonies! It takes a concentrated mind to pull this piece off - and Ogdon certainly succeeds!

  • @Noshirm Thank you Noshie

  • @suzettegm I think this work was composed in 1883...Liszt was then about 72 and still capable of spectacular playing. Marie Jaëll by then was about 37and a formidable pianist. Liszt said of her that she had "the brains of a philosopher and the fingers of an artist". It was her playing of this piece that caused Liszt to rethink and substantially rework it.

  • @Noshirm Why Noshie....what the hell (sic) was going on when our popstar wrote this one wonders...must have been some lady then :-)

  • @suzettegm Sulfurous and sardonic...and dedicated to Marie Trautmann-Jaëll, the gifted pupil of Moscheles and Herz! I love this neglected work. (:-0)

  • Interesting...it doesn't sound that diabolic and/ or demented to me...which might mean that my mood just suits the music at the moment, lol :-)

  • A suitably diabolic & demented performance. Absolutely nobody programmed these pieces,(late Liszt) in public or recorded them for a major label, but it was meat & drink for Ogdon, and my first hearings of several Unusual Noises i owe to him, on stage or in studio.
