Due to modernization most of the rituals appears to be foolish, but, in general these are having some significance in past when there is only dharma(no English word to it). Dharma is something that people are almost all equal to god( because as per our religion good gradually and systematically vanishes from this world which leads to kaliyuga). In fact we already entered into this kaliyuga therefore there is no root cause effects to these principles at this moment. Everything seems to be silly.
