  • Glad you enjoyed your weekend away!! :) Yey for having the kids underfoot ;)

I could not imagine being w/o power for 37 days, Dee. I just could not. I'm glad it brought your little hood together, but goodness. How'd you keep the perishables from going bad? Was it buying food every day? Okay these were weird questions, but you had great answers to them. The canoe story was interesting..but sucky. Scary too

  • @silverscreamgrl We had a generator that we were able to plug the fridge into and a light. We cooked on propane stoves and bbq pit and took super cold baths. ha The Red Cross and The Mormons were amazing, they came by nearly everyday with cold water and hot lunch plates so that was a mavasive help. I think i enjoyed it more bc i was feeling pretty unneeded around here, but when the shit hit the fan I was the one that was able to pull it together. Sounds vein but i don't mean it that way at all

  • @darlynn12 started getting the hotel people out a few at a time and he had very little cash on him, ATMs not working, so he got whatever the closest gas station would do to feed him and started hitching. I tell you what, when his cell phone died and I could reach him, I about got frantic. Anyway, it all worked out in the end. It was a horrifying time, Dee. Glad you all made it out safe.

  • @silverscreamgrl Oh wow so sorry to hear Temple went threw that. the leeve broke just behind terry's shop that was a horrible mess people went threw with the crime on top of the water. Just awful!

It was really hard with the credit and atm cards not working. I tell ya we pooled our cash on the block and we came up with a whopping 167 bucks not much but it got us gas for the generators and such.

  • @darlynn12 I think it was that (Katrina) that makes me go directly to the ATMs when a hurricane is expected and take out a bunch of cash. Because when that thing is down, and the stores are not accepting credit (Home Depot is equipped, though!!!), you are effed up bigtime. It's crazy the things you have to think about now. They've made life "easier" for us with debit cards, so we never carry money on us. I'm old, so I still have a small emergency stash (usually around $60)

  • @darlynn12 I heart ya.

That's good that the Red Cross and Mormons helped. I just remember being incredibly on edge all that time until Temple was able to hitch hike his way up to where his sister could meet him and keep him safe. He ironically left the very safe French Quarter and his apt., to head out to where the levees broke and was in a hotel for three days stuck because his car was filled up with water to about the door level. A guy came by in a boat and (more)

  • @darlynn12 Now there ya have it! hehehe!
