2000 Socialist Party presidential candidate.
"Deal with the card you're dealt", I love that.
The Socialist guy was right on on thing though, capital punishment is a crime.

  • @doombuggy123 "Big gov" can be socialism. Its sharing resources among citizens having more public goods. I have no qualms with that, I have a problem with how it undermines private ownership and vilifies capitalism as something selfish. Capitalism and Democracy go hand in hand. When you cast your dollar...you are casting your vote for the products you consume. Whether you have the government pay for them (like schools) or you pay out of pocket, free markets shouldnt be compromised.

  • @doombuggy123 Im not sure how you think that im repeating buzz words? Because from this side it sounds your doing that. But I think thats just because we both are so convinced of our points of view that its difficult to see how the argument is not obvious to others. What specifically would you like to me cite?

  • @doombuggy123 (p1) That is a polarized view on business and gov. Sure government is supposed to protect us, but it doesnt always. The US government taught the Nazis to sterilize minorities and the disabled. There should be checks and balances. You cant give all the responsibilities and power to one faction. What about the individuals who have fought for fairness? Starbucks was one of the first companies to give gay workers equal benefits. It was controversial, they still did it.

  • @doombuggy123 (p3)You are right, the false sense of accomplishment is disgusting, But doesnt that say more about the people that buy them? We live in the information age! We can google something at the grocery store and get all the facts. Thats what I do. I needed to buy a water filter and just googled the two brands available on the spot. This wouldnt be possible without entrepreneurs and free thinkers who came up with ideas that make our lives better.

  • @doombuggy123 I honestly was ready to resign from this conversation wondering if there was going to be anything new brought up. I really like the example of Dove chocolate you brought up. Youre right businesses will advertise the message their consumers want to hear. And I think female empowerment ads (even if businesses dont believe in them) are a sign the times are a changing. Its a reflection of society...as society changes business adapts. I think thats a good thing.

  • @doombuggy123 Im not saying that poor people are not entitled to these basic needs. They can still get them through a different system. Im saying that the government should focus on paying tuition and not building bad schools. They should opt for the voucher system. Why should the gov pay administration costs and teachers salaries...leave that for private or charter schools to set up, all the gov has to do is provide tuition. I think health care should follow a similar structure.

  • @rheniumlake So again, do you believe that public schools and public healthcare are unnecessary? There may be private institutions that can do them better, most people would argue that private schools are intrinsically better, but the whole point of these programs is to give everyone access to the most basic of requirements. Not everyone can afford private schooling or medical insurance. Should they just go without these things altogether?

  • @doombuggy123 (cont.) "Big government" is not the same as socialism. Socialism is specific to economics. People get communism and socialism confused because they don't understand that socialism doesn't require a tyranny. The Nazis were fascist, which is the exact opposite of socialism and also operates under a tyranny.

  • @rheniumlake Again those have nothing to do with socialism. I am asking you to prove to me that people who benefit from social programs do not have jobs. You haven't provided a single statistic that would indicate that people on welfare, food stamps, medicare or other "handouts" are less likely to work....

  • @rheniumlake (p3) Corporations give their brands personalities to make them sell better to a specific market. Like any of those "green" products, that may or may not actually be better for their environment - their a personality created by an ad agency to make people identify with the product. They don't solve issues, they create issues by giving discontent people a false sense of peace of mind.
