Not always possible to take all the metal pieces off. If you have staked pins on the ferrules, then you would have to drill out the pins. Might be the best way to do it, but a lot of work...

Sure you could but as long as you seperate the wood from the metal, it wont matter anyway. You can always "re-refinish" the wood :D

Also is there a specific way you did your nagant? I know you did your WASR by taking all the wood off. It's not as easy to do that with the mosin. I was curious to know how you did it on your mosin.

Sorry saw this late. My Mosin was easy enough to strip all the metal off. The bolt, barrel and receiver come out. Then your just left with the wood... Check out my newest videos about the Mauser, very similar to refinishing the Mosin

Wow nice man, I'm gonna do that to my WASR, and also have been wanting to do a job on my nagant. Is the finish you did on your nagant, similar to the original finish? Thx.

Yes and no. I seem to remember the original finish was slightly darker. The finish was in poor shape, in some places it was almost gone entirely. What I did to that rifle made it look like a different gun.
