I always felt Gene Parsons was too busy a drummer for The Byrds. Loved his voice, though, and he's an accomplished instrumentalist and a very talented musician. Plays just about anything with strings very well. He invented the "B-Bender" guitar alteration for Clarence White, which gave a six-string guitar a sound it never had before. I saw this Byrds line-up perform can't-remember-how-many times, and noted his drumming wasn't straight ahead enough, all over the place.

Too up in spirit.
Too much a celebration of a song.
Lowell sang it like it was. Surviving day and night behind the wheel to make ends meet. Your head full of the woman you love.
It's the stripped back beauty of the song.

They did this song SO well live. There's a take from Louisville, 1970, that's perhaps the best rendition of the song I've ever heard
