The entries in the online Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy are written by leading experts and vetted by others before they appear. Thus, if Wikipedia were run by academic experts, it would look like this.
Stanford University:
http://www.stanford.edu/
Stanford News:

Stanford University Channel on YouTube:

As one of the laypeople who read the site, I'm very grateful for its existence. It's the first place I go whenever I want to look up something with a philosophical connection or even just to understand something better.
It's great that academia is putting a lot into making sure the general public has at least the ability to access information if possible.

The SEP, what would I do without you? Spend a ton on money on books or a lot of time at the library, that's for sure! Now we just need more philosophy lectures from Stanford!

Lets hope more departments in more universties around the world start doing this same thing.

It would be even better if there was a collective of universities around the world all working together on a single, larger, authoritative wikipedia.
