Soon the world will come to rights ...
Audio only, Van Der Graaf Generator here play live one of my favourite VDGG songs: "Necromancer". This is a very early live version from the album "The Box", recorded live at the BBC radio session Top Gear on 18th November 1968, a radio show hosted by John Peel, and aired on November 30. The line-up around this time was Keith Ellis, Hugh Banton, Guy Evans, Peter Hammill and Chris Judge Smith - before David Jackson ever joined the band. Chris Judge Smith left the band during November, and there are conflicting reports about whether he was still a member when this recording was made (reports from the booklet included with "The Box" and from the book "The Book" by Jim Christopulos and Phil Smart). Therefore, it could be Chris Judge Smith here on backing vocals.

This live version was requested by 'thefatmonk'.

I compiled the video myself utilising footage mostly downloaded from YouTube, with some of my own added effects and filters.

Please check out my other videos.

  • Thanks for this version which is way better than the studio version. Can you load more BBC session Top Gear?? please, theres nothing on youtube.

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth:

"The Box" includes from the Top Gear recording dated 18th November 1968: People You Were Going To / Afterwards / Necromancer.

Also from the Top Gear recording dated 27th January 1970:

    Darkness 11/11

    After The Flood

It Also includes a few songs from various Peel sessions (Refugees - 1971, Cat's Eye / Yellow Fever - 1977, The Sphinx In The Face - 1977), and from the Alan Black session of 1971 (Theme One).

You should try to get a copy - perhaps a Xmas/Birthday present.

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth:

Watch my channel for more PH/VDGG.

I might try to upload "People You Were Going To" from The Box, but the other tracks are already well represented on YT.

I mostly try and upload songs not already on YT, or versions which are particularly interesting, or standout versions that are not easily available.

  • Sono molto popolari in Italia - si prega di consultare i miei altri video di più dello stesso.

  • かっこいいようぅ〜!(T□T) 10年振りくらいに聴いたけど、あかん!再びハミル様の日々確実...!

  • This band OWNS. They are my favorite band period. I don't think that anyone is more talented that I have heard yet. I have heard all the prog bands.

  • troppo tosti.

  • perdonatemi,ma io li ho scoperti solo oggi...forti!

  • The Keyboardist connect his electric organ to a Fuzzbox! grat trick for the psychedelic-progressive generation (along to process the voice or guitar by a Leslie speaker)
